As a rule I set for myself I like to learn something new each year, a new skill to add to my own personal collection of talents. I think it's always important to try to better yourself whether its learning something new or doing something you haven't done before. I'd been getting semi permanent eyelash extensions for the past 3 years and I had always been quite intrigued by the method. Anyone who knows what it's like getting your lashes done, you lay down and have your eyes closed for an hour (depending on how quick your lash tech is). You can never see what's going on and this fascinated me. After watching a few YouTube tutorials I was sold and decided to book in with a training school to do a course in Eyelash Extensions.
I couldn't help but feel as though my training school didn't really touch on any information regarding what equipment is the best to use in conjunction with eyelash extensions. So today I thought I would write this blog with my own views on the best equipment for all of my other lash loving technicians out there.
Lucky for me I have my very own kingdom of equipment... the Cosmetronic Showroom *sounds of euphoria*, which after my eyelash course I saw in a completely new light - it was my new playground of toys. I was absolutely spoilt for choice when it came to selecting my treatment couch as we have around 10 different models in the showroom at any time and the collection is always expanding.
Firstly, I cannot stress how important your clients comfort is. Trust me it really makes all the difference. I have had my eyelashes done on a fold away portable bed and on an electric plush treatment couch. The difference is ginormous. Although it may not be a possibility for everyone, I would strongly advise to splash that cash where necessary. See it as an investment, and for me it's a real deal breaker. If I feel uncomfortable during my treatment it's not going to make me leave feeling happy with my new lashes, no matter if they are the fleekiest lashes around- I'm going to remember the back ache I got for a few days after.
My personal favourite couch to use was the Harmon. Exhibit A: Polly- One of my clients was so comfortable she fell into a deep sleep. Although this has happened to me with a few clients, (from relaxation - not because I'm boring *rolls eyes*) she got on the treatment couch and was instantly relaxed and told me how she felt like she was laying in bed. This couch is so versatile, it has three electric motors which means you can maximize client comfort and adjust them into the perfect position to suit their posture. Not only this but your own comfort which is vital. I could modify Polly into the ideal position for me to work, where I am not hunching over or compromising my own needs. Another top reason why I love this couch is for it's width, the Harmon feels super chunky - and chunky in the most positive way! I have so much space either side of my clients face for my work tools and my arms are not slipping off the sides of the couch.
Next major piece of equipment you need is a stool. So many people in the beauty industry will know how their work may take its toll on their own health, especially their posture. My preference has to be the new Lolli S+. It's a multi-talented saddle stool, ergonomically designed to keep your spine in alignment. It stops you from crossing your legs which is one of the top reasons people suffer from bad back. There's also three levers where you can adjust height, backrest and seat inclination. The Lolli S+ gets a 10/10 from me, I will never go back to a normal stool again!
My third item is a must have not a need; a steriliser. No matter what circumstances you are in there are no excuses for poor hygiene. When working on something as sensitive and delicate as the eyes you really have no excuse to not be keeping your tools clean. I find the ultrasound steriliser suits me best, it's not too big but it's still big enough to get all my tools clean at once. And so easy to use with the digital timer, it's really simple to do in between clients or at the end of the day.
Last but not least, and I really have saved the best till last. My LED Slimline lamp. This lamp is the Victoria Secrets wonder bra of lingerie. The MAC of all makeup. You get the picture. It would be ideal if eyelash extensions could be done with the bright natural light of the sun, so that's basically what has been compacted into this one little lamp. The bulbs inside are made using daylight technology which makes the light super bright and white so it will illuminate every little lash that might be hiding. I've stressed how important your own health is during this blog and again I'm coming back to that with this lamp. It's great to invest in a lamp like this because it will helps to reduce eye strain and glare for healthy vision.
Another great alternative for people who don't have the best vision is the Medium LED Magnifying lamp. This has all the powers of the daylight lamp but with a magnifying lens that has two different diopters inside. You can also adjust the strength of the lights to suit you.
Well there you have it. My top four must have products for eyelash extensions. I hope you've enjoyed reading and found this blog useful. Until next time- Peace, Love & Lashes xxx
